Did you go to bed last night wishing you could snuggle up with a Left Handed Wave plush or perhaps wake up in the morning hoping you could check the date on your Jon Burgerman calender? Good news! All of your dreams can become a reality at "While Supplies Last," a concept store in Chicago's Ukrainian Village neighborhood.

I had the pleasure of checking out the store this past weekend. Although the space is small, it houses a handful of unique and impressive street art pieces from artists all over the world. I picked up a few stickers and browsed their impressive collection of original prints, clothing and books all the while trying to figure out if I was in a store or art gallery.

The owners of the shop were very friendly and told me that they couldn't be more excited about the combined effort and collaboration of the various artists featured in the store. They will be rotating the products and pieces throughout the shop's two month span and I'm already looking forward to another visit.

You too? Better hurry... you wouldn't want to spend another night without a banana man as your snuggle bunny.

XVALA

Time for spring cleaning! While some of you may think that the Salvation Army is anxiously awaiting the arrival of your T-Ball MVP trophy from 1988, Abercrombie SoCal tee, and your Aqua Aquarium CD from 1997 ("Barbie Girl" was your jam!) turns out you have another option.

XVALA is an anonymous street artist that uses discarded trash from celebrities to create artwork that comments on pop culture. His latest piece of "tabloid art" is derived from the trash can of the ultimate pop culture princess herself, Kim Kardashian.

A deflated basketball found in Kim's garbage is now XVALA's latest work of art and can be seen at a show in LA this Saturday. XVALA describes his new piece as an interpretation of Kim's failed marriage (I don't know if you heard, but she divorced NBA baller, Kris Humphries). He adds that the piece comments on the "authenticity of their acclaimed nuptials."

XVALA is mostly known for his Fear Google street stickers, which were released in 2010 and comment on society's dependence on the Internet. The image above, taken at the intersection of Melrose and Fairfax in LA, shows a picture from Scarlett Johannson's leaked nude photo library. XVALA printed the photo and cheekily covered up her lady bits with his iconic sticker. The photos and stickers were posted all around LA.

Screw Good Will, looks like ScarJo needs that SoCal tee more than anyone else.

OBEY- Shepard Fairey

If you haven't heard of Shepard Fairey, you are not Amurican.

No joke- he came up with our president's "Hope" campaign poster from the 2008 election. Shepard Fairey is, perhaps, the most well known street artist in the world. His OBEY posters depicting French wrestler and eighth wonder of the world, Andre the Giant, started as a design school assignment and, since then, has grown into an artistic icon recognized all over the world.

Fairey tends to get shit from the street art community because he has marketed his talents to companies such as Pepsi and Urban Outfitters as well as designed for musicians and celebrities such as Kobe Bryant. I'm sure he feels bad about working for The Man when he's sleeping on his money-filled mattress every night...

The image above on the left is a huge OBEY piece on the side of an abandoned building in Berlin, Germany. The one on the right is from Chicago off of Belmont Ave and can be seen from both the Brown and Red train lines.

Fairey's next adventure will be in Springfield with Bart Simpson as he is set to make an appearance in an episode of "The Simpsons." Tune in March 4, 2012 on Fox for some animated, commercialized street art magic.

Left Handed Wave

Need your daily dose of potassium? No worries, I've got you covered. Left Handed Wave is one of Chicago's more well known street artists. The lifesize sticker of a man in a banana suit giving you a- you guessed it genius- left handed wave can be seen throughout the streets of Chicago.

The photo above is from an alley facing the iconic Wrigley Field. I can't wait until baseball season starts and I get the joy of seeing drunk Cubs fans actually high fiving this guy. Wave on in your fresh Nike kicks, my banana friend, wave on...

The Starting Point

My passion for street art began when I traveled to Europe and went on an amazing adventure in Berlin, Germany. What I had previously viewed as dirty, illegal spray painting finally took shape as one of the truest forms of art alive today.

I created this blog to share street art from around the world in hopes that you can begin to see the beauty in this truly unexpected and original art form. Most of this clever art is taken down by the city shortly after being put up, so feel free to share photos and videos of street art that catches your eye so their work can live forever.

Enjoy!
