OBEY- Shepard Fairey

If you haven't heard of Shepard Fairey, you are not Amurican.

No joke- he came up with our president's "Hope" campaign poster from the 2008 election. Shepard Fairey is, perhaps, the most well known street artist in the world. His OBEY posters depicting French wrestler and eighth wonder of the world, Andre the Giant, started as a design school assignment and, since then, has grown into an artistic icon recognized all over the world.

Fairey tends to get shit from the street art community because he has marketed his talents to companies such as Pepsi and Urban Outfitters as well as designed for musicians and celebrities such as Kobe Bryant. I'm sure he feels bad about working for The Man when he's sleeping on his money-filled mattress every night...

The image above on the left is a huge OBEY piece on the side of an abandoned building in Berlin, Germany. The one on the right is from Chicago off of Belmont Ave and can be seen from both the Brown and Red train lines.

Fairey's next adventure will be in Springfield with Bart Simpson as he is set to make an appearance in an episode of "The Simpsons." Tune in March 4, 2012 on Fox for some animated, commercialized street art magic.
